Did you know there are more than 245 biotech companies in the Kansas City region and that number growing every day? The region includes research centers, the animal health corridor, and the clinical trials hub: all producing biologic drugs, vaccines, diagnostics, and other products that heal, feed and fuel our society. And, they are looking to hire great employees! But, they want more than a degree. KU's new Biotech Career Accelerator is designed to make you a competitive job candidate, ready to enter the field upon degree completion. Develop your skills and knowledge through:
- Intensive weekend boot camp (during the spring semester)
- Monthly mentoring sessions with industry professionals
- Industry-specific resume and interview preparation
- Job shadowing and internship opportunities
Who should apply?
KU students and postdocs interested in exploring a career with a company that researches, tests, develops or manufactures pharmaceuticals, biologics, biosimilars, therapeutics, or medical devices.
Who can apply?
The Biotech Career Accelerator is open to current University of Kansas students that have completed at least two academic years’ progress in a biosciences, engineering, nursing or pharmaceutical sciences major. Current postdocs at KU are eligible for this program as well. Additionally, a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher is required to be considered for this program. Applicants must also be willing to participate in the spring weekend boot camp, the monthly virtual mentoring sessions and the resume/interview workshop.
When is the deadline to apply?
Applications are due by 11:59 pm Central on Friday, January 26, 2018. Students will be notified by the beginning of February of their application status. There is no cost to students for this program.
How do I apply?
Fill out and submit the application form. In addition to information about you, the application includes:
- A short essay (maximum of 250 words) on why you should be selected for this program. Strong candidates are those that demonstrate motivation, leadership and academic achievement.
- A copy of your transcript.
- One letter of recommendation from someone other than a family member like a professor, manager, or mentor. (Optional)
What is the selection process?
A selection committee will review all materials received by the deadline to determine participants for the 2017-2018 cohort. Notifications will be made in early February.
